This weekend I built and painted the Khurasan APC. Given its stunning resemblance to the M577 APC from the 1986 movie Aliens I used the fanbase info for the painting. Figures in the picture below are from GaleForce9's 2020 board game Aliens.
To keep all the moving parts moving I magnetized the wheels, gun turrets and door.
Another baffling design choice is that the APC has only one entry/exit door and a sliding door at that, of which the mechanism is placed on the outside. A few lucky hits on the rails and the crew is trapped inside the APC with no other way to get out....
The four wheels are independently driven by one engine each. That's 4 times the chance on crippling engine failure compared to a classic one-engine vehicle. Plus it remains a mystery how Ripley could break the transaxle in a vehicle that doesn't need one.
I am clearly overthinking things 😂
Funny, my first thought on seeing Aliens APC was that the low front overhang was a major mobility problem/design flaw. Color me nerd.

We're Nerds of a feather then. The Aliens APC follows the rules of cool, not the rules that govern mobility or practicality.

I would have commented on that but to be honest it actually has quite some ground clearance, almost as much as the T-54. But it seems less because it is so big.
DeleteYeah, I can see that, but... the T54 has continuous tracks and can therefore handle rough terrain. The APC is only good for tarmac as it would scrape and jam in rough terrain.

ReplyDeleteThe APC could surely with its advanced weaponry destroy that T54 easily - it is only 20Th C armour (from the 1950's)
