Sci-Fi wargaming in 1/72: more aliens added

Because 1/72 or (not entirely accurate) 20mm scale is The One Scale for people my age and to give some opposition to the tide of beautiful 15mm and 28mm sized stuff here is an overview of my 20mm Sci-Fi wargaming stuff, mostly made for Stargrunt II and its worthy successor Tomorrow's war. As you will find it is an eclectic mix of 1/72 figures and kits, large 15mm stuff and random toys. Not all is pictured here but I refer to my other blogposts of Tomorrow's War especially.

The 1/72 figure shown for scale with the vehicles is a Dark Dream Studio SF figure

  1. The "unknown" apc next to your Fuchs is a Marder Apc used by the West Germans during the cold war. 70`s and 80`s.nice collection. 1/72/20mm rules!! i almost bought those dark dream troopers once..are they worth it??

  2. The DDS set is actually a strange but very nice set. It consists of 14 very nicely done figures in 7 poses, most of which are shown in the picture above, one Combat walker and one Hunter/killer. Hence a box will provide you with about 2 squads of troopers including support weapons like RPG and SAW and two small Mechs. The Mechs are a bit fiddly to build but will end up being nice models. The paintjob I did on them years ago is atrocious however and I will probably repaint them in the near future.

    1. The Colonial Marines are made by Rolf Hedges of RH Models (http://www.rhmodels.com/) He makes terrific miniatures as you can see. His site is alas not very forthcoming with information but he has always responded clearly and quickly top emails. Mail him and ask to be admitted to his forum where you can find pictures of his miniatures http://excoboard.com/RHMODELS

Ordering works through email and he accepts credit card payments. He is always quick to deliver and his stuff is top quality ( I have yet to receive one figure with any flash on it so far).

  5. Your models are amazing looking. If you're intrested in a good, FREE, set of HO scale Science Fiction rules check out quickandeasygames.wordpress.com refrence "Space Battles."

  6. Great looking modles. Are you aware that a set of rules for this was published on Amazon? The game is called Ground Pounders.

  7. I make up sets of toy soldiers to give away to less well off youngsters (retirement hobby) and I do get asked for SciFi but there isn't much on the market. The Dark Dream Studios sets seem to be out of production so I'm converting WW2 US paratroops and using 'ancients' as civilians. There again 'making stuff' is what I enjoy. I'll check out the brands mentioned and see if they are usable as 'toys' (first step in creating a wargamer), thanks for posting.
