2025 Japan year: Samurai, Yokai, Test of Honour, Killer Katanas and what not?

After finishing Conan 2025 seems to turn out to be a Japan year. I am building armies and lists (and terrain) for Test of Honour, Ronin and Killer Katanas.

I wil very likely try out Clash of Katanas as well as the Heiho system Wargames Atlantic is promising me.

But first some paintwork:

The Paintjobs of August

Last month I didn't do much blogging (none at all actally!) due to a very busy working month. But I did manage to do some diverse painting here and there:

The Hardshell Heroes and their mentor Splinter made by Greebo Games.

Bombshell Babes female samurai and Chinese swordswoman

Bombshell Babes swordswoman versus a Wargames Factory plastic samurai. You do have to pay some attention to positioning the parts. The loose legs, torso, arms and head as well as swords, sashimono and such make for a lot of work, but enable a lot of variety as well. Tilting the head a little makes a lot of difference for example.

On the Web they often look a bit wooden, but I am actually quite satisfied with the results.

Painting them is a breeze. Detail is excellent and moldlines slight. There is no flash whatsoever.

More WGF samurai cavalry

Below more Wargames Factory figures. These are AWI British, drafted by the Royal Marines

Incidentally, the Navy officer in the blue coat is a Warlord Games figure originally the giveaway with the Blackpowder Rebellion book.

Here more Wargames Factory figures (Zulus converted to Pulp cannibals) attack my Marines

Pirates squabble over loot. Another Warlord Games figure on the right confronted with Musketeers non-Jack Sparrow and two Foundry pirates.

Some tryouts for a new game, Frostgrave. Vendel Border Reivers flanking old Mercator, a Crisis giveaway of some years ago,

The bear is an old Mageknight figure, rebased and repainted.

And we end with four happily quaffing GW dwarves.

I hope you enjoyed it and that it inspired you!

John Carter Project Pt 2: Barsoomian skiffs

While my order of |Barsoom figures is speeding towards me I thought it fitting to start building some vehicles for them.

Scratchbuilt from foamboard and cardboard and still only in primer but I am quite content with the results so far.

The 28mm figure (a converted WF Zulu) is shown for scale.

The John Carter Project pt 1

I am expressing a serious ambition here: to stage a massive John Carter demo about a year from now. I have done some research already, a miniature ordering list is being made and drawings for Martian flyers being done. I am planning to stay as close to the movies as possible.

A few feeble first steps are these Wargames Factory Zulus converted into Red Martians. I hope many will follow!

Pulp Adventure native cannibal

A while ago someone stated that the Wargames Factory Zulus were no  good for making Pulp Adventure natives. I said I´d prove him wrong and here is my attempt!

The great warrior Boboti of the Wabapi tribe, ready to defend Skull Island against film crews and other insidious threats!

GASLIGHT and Victorian SF

For my coming GASLIGHT VSF games I painted a number of Steampunk figures that had been gathering dust for the last few years. Most of them are made by Steve Jackson Games and a few of unknown (or forgotten by me) manufacturers.

First some of the old Warzone plastics. I went for a more late Victorian VSF feel with swapping some weapons or adapting them. I am not happy about the shoulder pads (but they won´t come off in a pretty way) and I think that the head of the blue "German" officer would be better if I used a British head with a peaked cap.

Then the Masters of Mekaniks! Victorian scientists (not looking all too stable in some cases) and their humanoid contraptions. The guy on the far right even worked on himself!

Then some stylish gents and Ladies (well, women anyway). Note the female trooper of Flashman´s hussar regiment and the Clockwork Cat.

And finally some stalwart Defenders of the Realm; Wargames Factory Zulu war British converted to Home Service dress.
